Christmas Polo in full swing
Teams from 3 universities descended on the club on Saturday, decked out in their finest fancy dress and, for many, experiencing their first competitive tournament since trying polo in September! UEA (East Anglia) and Kent University battled it out in Novice matches whilst the beginner league featured a team from the newly formed Polo brand of the Essex University Equestrian Club. Needless to say, the cheering was deafening, the outfits were garish and despite the drizzle, a huge amount of fun was had by all! Proceeds from the uni tournament were donated to the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance in support of their outstanding work saving lives. The results of the tournament saw UEA walk away as victors of the beginner league and a combined team of Claudia Seers from Westminster Uni and up-and-coming superstar, Archie Turner (12) … yes we let him play with the uni students… stealing the novice title. Most valuable player for the beginner was awarded to Macy Desborough and the novice MVP went to Freya Chilton, both from Kent University. Prizes included MHF vouchers (available as Christmas Gifts for anyone asking…), Shirts from Oswald and Kane and Polo Hat Bands! (Thanks to Thomas Boyd for some of the photos below!)
Sunday 2nd December, MHF hosted the second round of our winter league matches. With hungover students watching on the sidelines to see how it is done, the pace picked up significantly from the day before as 4 teams battled it out for the league points. With impressive polo from Claudia Brin, one of MHF’s junior members, some vicious ride offs from Ben Marsh and of course, Uncle Ruzza’s commanding plays, the polo made for fantastic entertainment and saw a shake up in the league table results. Harriet Styles, Francesca Smith, Tristan Pemble and Melissa Jenni all walked away with wins and a boost to their overall scores!
