Winter League, Parade in London and other nonsense

It’s mid-November and we are going full-steam ahead at MHF.

Incase you missed it our PR stunt of the month was 6 of our beautiful ponies (and pretty good-looking riders) in the centre of London, wandering down New Bond Street and dribbling arena balls around Berkley Square - we are on a drive to bring more polo to the capital and get the young professional population out of the gym and into the polo arena - our Docklands arena is in full swing and perfect for anyone working in the city!

With more and more city-dwellers getting interested in the sport, we are running taster sessions in London to give as many people as possible a chance to give it a go, this Friday there are 20 people descending on us to find out what it is all about. Get in touch if you’re thinking it might be something you want to try, the more the merrier!

Speaking of merry - Saturday 10th we kicked the winter season off officially with our start of season meal and drinks. Host in Bishop’s Stortford put up a delicious menu and having got the formalities out of the way, it seems that we can get on with the winter properly.

Sunday 11th we donned our poppies and played our first round of winter league matches at MHF - the teams included:

La Vie en Rose: Claudia Brin, Edward Banner-Eve (yes he is back from travels)

Indy’s: Harriet Styles and Alec Banner-Eve

Live Financial: Jess Roche and Ben Marsh

Indy’s (Harriet and Alec) stole the show and won the round robin over all, accumulating the most team points but Jess Roche, charging down the arena on her new pony, walked away as individual winner on points! Great fun was had by all and despite the November fixture, the sun was shining. Book in for the next league match with Mandy now!

The universities and schools are going full pelt this winter too - it is amazing to see the progress that some of the students make week-on-week. It won’t be long before the school kids are giving the adult members a real run for their money (Claudia Brin already is!) - we are looking forward to hosting a charity university tournament on the 1+2 December for the Herts and Essex Air Ambulance - spectators welcome - as much cheering as possible for the beginners!

All in all, we have had a busy few weeks getting things up and running but the best is yet to come! Look out for a match report on Ed’s antics in Pakistan, more winter league matches, even more Docklands fun and some exciting announcements about the Arena Gold Cup…
